What Happened to 112?

Today we're taking it back to another 90’s R&B group. Today we will take a look at “What Happened to 112?” Before we get into where the group is now...were going to take it back to the beginning.

Career:

The members of 112 first met in high school in Atlanta, Georgia. Daron Jones, Michael Keith, Marvin Scandrick, and Quinnes Parker were the original members of the group. They performed at talent shows and were known as Forte. They sang for Combs and he liked the group and signed them. They ended up changing their name to 112, because that was the name of the club where they auditioned for Sean Combs, aka P. Diddy.

They soon moved to New York City, and started to record their debut album. 112 the album was released in 1996 and went double platinum. It was number five on the Billboard charts and sold over two million copies. Some hit singles were “Only You” and “Cupid.” They went on tour opening for the Isley Brothers and also featured on some tracks for Biggie, Puff Daddy, and Mase.

In 1997, 112 populated the charts with hit singles. “I’ll Be Missing You” was certified triple platinum, and won a Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Group. The single topped the charts for eleven weeks. 112 went on tours with Keith Sweat, New Edition, and Puff Daddy for 18 continuous months.

In 1998, they released their second album Room 112 and some singles from their album were “Love Me” featuring Mase and “Anywhere” featuring Lil Zane. The album and the single “Love Me” went gold, but ended up double platinum. The My Love Is Your Love World Tour happened in the summer of 1999 and they joined Whitney Houston.

In 2001, the group's third album Part III was released. Some hit singles from the album were “It’s Over Now” and “Peaches & Cream.” “Peaches & Cream” earned them a Grammy nomination as well and the album ended up going platinum. P.Diddy was having some legal issues at the time, so 112 had to record this album elsewhere. They earned two more Grammy nominations and decided to go on tour with Janet Jackson to promote the album more.

In 2002, the group ended up leaving Bad Boy Records and signed with Def Jam. Their first album released by Def Jam was Hot & Wet, but still some disagreements continued about the ownership since they left P. Diddy. The album was released late in 2003, but it didn’t get that much recognition on the charts.

In 2005, 112 released their fifth album Pleasure & Pain, and featured the popular single “U Already Know.” After this album, the group split and decided to pursue their own solo careers, but they were also dropped by Def Jam.

In 2007, they created their own record label called One Twelve Music Group. They still worked on their own solo careers while going on tour worldwide and in 2008, they performed in Belgium and Germany. Slim released his solo debut album Love’s Crazy, and Michael Keith decided to leave the group and released his debut album, but in 2010 he mended things with the group and joined 112 again. The group had officially reunited and announced they were working on another album plus going on tour in 2012.

In 2015, 112 performed at the BET Awards being a part of the Bad Boy Reunion and in 2018, the group released their first album in 12 years. 112 is still active and this past July, they released a single “Spend It All” and this is their first single from their upcoming album 112 Forever. This album is supposed to drop on September 4th, 2020 and all of the original members are currently in the group.

112 definitely did have some HITS! Let’s not forget how hot this group really was in the 90’s and the early 2000’s.
